Summary
Replace the battery in iPhone 15 Pro when it no longer holds adequate charge or device performance degrades. Batteries are rated for 1000 charge cycles at 80% capacity. This procedure requires opening the device, disconnecting cables, and removing the old battery. Replacement screen adhesive and battery adhesive (if not pre-installed) are required.
Procedure
- Drain battery below 25% to prevent fire risk from damaged lithium-ion cells
- Power off the device completely
- Unplug all cables
- Tape over any cracked screen or back glass to protect against injury and ease disassembly
- Mark opening picks 3 mm from tip using permanent marker to prevent over-insertion damage
- Remove two 7 mm pentalobe screws on either side of charging port using P2 screwdriver
- Heat bottom edge with hair dryer or heat gun until hot to touch
- Apply suction handle to bottom edge and pull with steady force to create gap
- Insert opening pick into gap; slide along bottom edge (max 3 mm depth) to separate adhesive
- Heat right edge until hot to touch
- Insert pick (max 5 mm depth) around bottom right corner toward power button until feeling hard stop at clip
- Rotate pick flat-edge under screen and twist to release right clip
- Insert second pick and slide both picks to separate right edge adhesive (max 5 mm depth)
- Heat top edge until hot to touch
- Separate top edge adhesive with pick (max 3 mm depth) to release two clips
- Heat left edge until hot to touch
- Separate left edge adhesive with pick (max 2 mm depth) to avoid two screen cables; rotate around top left corner to bottom left
- Prop up screen using small box or books; swing up right edge like book cover
- Remove six Y000 screws from logic board cover (four 1.6 mm, two 1.3 mm screws)
- Rotate logic board cover counterclockwise at bottom; slide top left corner out from under ambient light sensor cable
- Disconnect battery press connector from bottom right of logic board using opening pick
- Disconnect screen cable from center of logic board
- Disconnect ambient light sensor cable from top left corner
- Remove screen
Notes
- Safety: Do not heat phone above hot-to-touch temperature; battery is heat-sensitive
- Cable locations: Two delicate screen cables are located just above the action button and near middle of left edge
- Spring contacts: Multiple spring contacts around phone perimeter; do not over-insert picks in these areas
- Parts pairing: iOS 17.6 and earlier may show replacement part warnings and disable battery health data; iOS 18+ supports calibration via Repair Assistant with authentic Apple batteries
- Swollen batteries: Take appropriate precautions if battery is visibly swollen
- Pick depth limits: Bottom edge (3 mm), right edge (5 mm), top edge (3 mm), left edge (2 mm)
- Reconnection: Press connectors click into place when aligned; ensure flat seating as insulating rubber may prevent full connection appearance
- Reassembly: Ensure logic board cover top left corner goes under ambient light sensor cable during reinstallation
