Summary

Replace the wide and ultrawide rear cameras on iPhone 15 Plus if images are fuzzy, noisy, or autofocus fails. This procedure requires careful handling of delicate cables and adhesive removal. You’ll need replacement back glass adhesive to complete the repair.

Procedure

  1. Prepare for disassembly: Drain battery below 25%. Power off the phone. Unplug any cables.

  2. Protect cracked glass: If screen or back glass is damaged, apply overlapping packing tape over cracks, leaving a smooth area at the bottom edge for the suction cup.

  3. Mark opening picks: Use a permanent marker to mark 3 mm from the tip of your opening pick to prevent inserting too far and damaging internal components.

  4. Remove pentalobe screws: Use P2 pentalobe driver to remove the two 7.7 mm screws on either side of the charging port.

  5. Heat and separate back glass: Heat bottom edge with hair dryer or heat gun until hot to touch. Apply suction handle to bottom edge and pull up. Insert opening pick into gap.

  6. Separate adhesive perimeter: Working around the phone in sequence (bottom, right, left, top), heat each edge and slide pick to separate adhesive:
    – Bottom edge: 5 mm depth maximum
    – Right edge: 7 mm depth maximum
    – Left edge: 5 mm depth maximum
    – Top edge: 3 mm depth maximum
    – Top right corner: 4 mm depth maximum

  7. Remove back glass: Gently swing open back glass to the right. Rest against raised surface to avoid straining cable.

  8. Disconnect battery: Remove lower connector cover screws (Y000 tri-point, 1.3 mm). Slide cover toward top to unlatch. Pry up and disconnect battery press connector.

  9. Disconnect cameras and antenna: Pry up and disconnect the two rear camera press connectors and antenna press connector (located top right of battery).

  10. Remove camera assembly: Use Phillips #00 driver to remove three 2.2 mm screws securing rear cameras.

  11. Install new cameras: Reverse the disconnection and removal steps. Ensure all press connectors click fully into place and sit flat.

  12. Reinstall back glass: Apply new adhesive strips, heat edges as needed, and press back glass firmly into place.

Notes

  • Due to Apple’s parts pairing restrictions, replacement cameras may trigger warnings on iOS 17.6 and earlier (they’ll still function). On iOS 18+, use Apple’s Repair Assistant to calibrate genuine camera modules.
  • Avoid inserting picks near the volume up button—a delicate cable is located there.
  • Multiple spring contacts line the perimeter; don’t exceed the specified depth limits to avoid bending them.
  • Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original location.
  • Press connectors require gentle alignment and clicking into place on both sides for proper seating.
