Summary

Replace the primary microphone in an iPhone 15 Plus if the device has difficulty picking up voice or experiences intermittent audio issues. This guide covers back glass removal and access to internal components necessary for microphone replacement. Note: Two additional microphones are integrated with the charging port and power button assemblies and cannot be replaced separately.

Procedure

Pre-Disassembly

  1. Drain battery below 25% (lithium-ion safety requirement)
  2. Unplug all cables
  3. Power off the device using power + volume button combination
  4. Apply overlapping packing tape over any cracked screen or back glass
  5. Mark opening pick 3 mm from tip with permanent marker to prevent over-insertion damage

Back Glass Removal

  1. Use P2 pentalobe driver to remove two 7.7 mm screws on either side of charging port
  2. Heat bottom edge of back glass with heat gun or hair dryer until hot to touch
  3. Apply suction handle to bottom edge and pull with steady force to create gap
  4. Insert opening pick into gap; do not insert deeper than 5 mm along bottom edge
  5. Slide pick back and forth to separate adhesive; leave pick in place to prevent re-sealing
  6. Heat right edge; insert second pick and rotate around bottom right corner up to clip (do not exceed 7 mm depth)
  7. Heat left edge; use third pick from bottom edge, rotate around bottom left corner to top left corner (do not exceed 5 mm depth)
  8. Heat top edge; rotate pick from top left to top right corner (do not exceed 3 mm depth)
  9. Heat top right corner; rotate pick around corner toward volume up button (do not exceed 4 mm depth)
  10. Gently swing back glass open to the right; rest against raised surface to avoid straining cable

Internal Access

  1. Use tri-point Y000 driver to remove two 1.3 mm screws securing lower connector cover
  2. Use tweezers to slide cover toward top of phone to unlatch from logic board
  3. Disconnect battery press connector using opening pick (identified by plus/minus markings on connector head)

Notes

  • Cable hazard: Delicate cable next to volume up button—do not insert pick in this area to avoid damage
  • Spring contacts: Multiple contacts around perimeter—strict depth limits prevent bending
  • Wireless charging cable: Located near volume buttons—avoid inserting pick too deeply on right side
  • Screw tracking: Keep all screws organized by location; screws vary in length and must return to exact positions
  • Reassembly: Replacement back glass adhesive required for completion
  • Press connector reconnection: Align connector over socket and press down one side until click, then other side; verify flat seating as insulating rubber may prevent full connection
