Summary
Replace the loudspeaker in iPhone 15 Plus if sound is crackling or distorted (after ruling out software issues). This procedure requires disassembling the back glass and accessing internal connectors. You’ll need replacement back glass adhesive to complete the repair.
Procedure
Pre-Disassembly
- Drain battery below 25%
- Power off the phone
- Apply packing tape over any cracked glass for protection
- Mark opening picks 3 mm from tip with permanent marker to prevent over-insertion damage
Back Glass Removal
- Remove two 7.7 mm pentalobe screws on either side of charging port (P2 driver)
- Heat bottom edge with hair dryer or heat gun until hot to touch
- Apply suction handle to bottom edge and pull to create gap
- Insert opening pick into gap
- Slide pick along bottom edge (max 5 mm depth) to separate adhesive; leave pick inserted
- Heat right edge; separate adhesive along right side (max 7 mm depth) to halfway up or until clip resistance—avoid volume buttons
- Heat left edge; insert second pick at bottom and slide to top left corner (max 5 mm depth)
- Heat top edge; rotate second pick across top (max 3 mm depth)—expect clicks as top clips release
- Heat top right corner; separate final adhesive section (max 4 mm depth)
- Gently swing back glass open to the right; rest against raised surface to avoid cable strain
Internal Connector Access
- Remove two 1.3 mm tri-point Y000 screws from lower connector cover
- Use tweezers to slide cover toward top and unlatch from logic board
- Hold back glass upright and rotate bottom edge left
- Use opening pick to pry up and disconnect battery press connector
- Remove four screws from Taptic Engine connector cover (various sizes: 1.4 mm, 1.9 mm, 1.9 mm, 2.1 mm) with Phillips #000 driver
- Remove cover with tweezers
- Disconnect Taptic Engine with spudger
Notes
- Cable hazard: Delicate cable next to volume up button—do not insert pick there
- Spring contacts: Multiple contacts around perimeter—do not exceed suggested depth at each step
- Wireless charging cable: Located near volume buttons—do not slice
- Screw tracking: Keep track of each screw; screws must return to exact original locations
- Battery temperature: Do not overheat—lithium-ion battery is heat-sensitive
- Press connectors: Align over socket and press down one side until it clicks, then press other side; ensure it sits flat
- Taptic Engine cover: Orient gold spring contact toward frame edge during reassembly
