Summary

Replace the front camera assembly (including Face ID hardware) in an iPhone 15 Plus. This is a paired component—Face ID will not function after replacement unless recalibrated on iOS 18+ using Apple’s Repair Assistant. Requires back glass adhesive and careful handling of delicate internal cables and clips.

Procedure

Preparation

  1. Drain battery below 25%
  2. Power off the device completely
  3. Tape over any cracked screen or back glass to prevent injury and aid disassembly

Back Glass Removal

  1. Remove two 7.7 mm pentalobe screws (P2 driver) flanking the charging port
  2. Heat bottom edge of back glass with heat gun until hot to touch
  3. Apply suction handle to bottom edge and pull steadily to create gap
  4. Insert opening pick (marked at 5 mm depth) into gap
  5. Slide pick along bottom edge to separate adhesive (max 5 mm depth); leave in place
  6. Heat right edge; insert second pick at 7 mm max depth, slide up right side until hard stop (clip)
  7. Heat left edge; rotate second pick around bottom left corner and slide to top left (max 5 mm depth)
  8. Heat top edge; rotate pick around top left and slide to top right (max 3 mm depth)
  9. Heat top right corner; rotate pick around corner and slide toward volume button (max 4 mm depth)
  10. Gently swing back glass open to the right; support cable connection with raised surface

Connector Disconnection

  1. Remove two 1.3 mm screws (tri-point Y000 driver) securing lower connector cover
  2. Use tweezers to slide lower cover toward top to unlatch
  3. Disconnect battery press connector (pry up with opening pick)
  4. Remove two 1.3 mm screws securing upper connector cover
  5. Disconnect three press connectors (antenna, front sensors, front camera) using opening pick

Notes

  • Sensor Pairing: Front camera and Face ID sensors are uniquely paired to logic board—replacement will disable Face ID unless recalibrated
  • Cable Hazard: Delicate cable next to volume up button—do not insert pick in this area
  • Spring Contacts: Multiple spring contacts around perimeter—do not exceed specified pick depths to avoid bending
  • Screw Tracking: Keep each screw organized; document original location for reassembly
  • Adhesive: Back glass is secured with adhesive requiring heat application before separation
  • iOS Considerations: iOS 17.6 and earlier require Apple authorized service for Face ID restoration; iOS 18+ supports self-calibration via Repair Assistant
  • Heat Safety: Do not exceed “hot to touch”—battery is susceptible to heat damage
