Summary
Replace a degraded iPhone 15 Plus battery that no longer holds adequate charge or has reached 80% capacity after 1000+ cycles. This procedure requires a replacement battery, back glass adhesive, and specific tools. Batteries below 25% charge are safer to work with.
Procedure
-
Prepare for disassembly
– Drain battery below 25%
– Power off phone completely
– Unplug all cables -
Protect cracked glass
– Apply overlapping packing tape over any cracks
– Ensure smooth area at bottom edge for suction cup -
Mark opening picks
– Mark 3 mm from tip with permanent marker to prevent over-insertion damage
– Alternatively, tape a coin 3 mm from tip -
Remove pentalobe screws
– Use P2 pentalobe driver
– Remove two 7.7 mm screws on either side of charging port -
Remove back glass
– Heat bottom edge until hot to touch (hair dryer or heat gun)

– Rest against raised surface to avoid cable strain -
Disconnect battery press connector
– Remove lower connector cover screws (two 1.3 mm screws, Y000 driver)
– Slide cover toward top to unlatch
– Rotate back glass upright and tilt bottom left
– Pry up and disconnect battery press connector with opening pick -

Notes
- Cable location: Delicate cable near volume up button—do not insert pick there
- Spring contacts: Multiple spring contacts around perimeter—do not exceed suggested insertion depths
- Parts pairing: iOS 17.6 and earlier may show warnings about replacement parts; iOS 18+ supports calibration via Repair Assistant
- Swollen batteries: Take appropriate precautions if battery is swollen
- Screw tracking: Keep all screws organized and return to exact original positions
- Press connector reconnection: Align over socket and press gently on one side until click, then other side; ensure it sits flat
- Heat caution: Do not overheat—battery is susceptible to heat damage
