Summary
Procedure to remove and replace a cracked or broken back glass on an iPhone 15 Plus. Requires replacement back glass and adhesive. On iOS 18+, use Apple’s Repair Assistant to pair new genuine rear glass after replacement.
Procedure
Preparation
- Drain battery below 25%. Unplug all cables and power off the device.
- If glass is heavily cracked, cover with overlapping strips of packing tape. Ensure a smooth area near the bottom edge for a suction cup.
- Mark an opening pick at 3 mm from the tip to prevent over-insertion damage.
Disassembly
- Using a P2 Pentalux driver, remove the two 7.7 mm screws on either side of the charging port.
- Heat the bottom edge of the back glass until hot to the touch. Do not overheat—battery is heat-sensitive.
- Apply suction cup to the bottom edge, pull up to create a gap, and insert the marked opening pick.
Critical zones to avoid: A fragile cable runs near the volume up button—do not insert picks in that area. Multiple spring contacts run the perimeter—do not exceed stated insertion depths.
- Bottom edge: Insert no deeper than 5 mm. Slide pick side to side to separate adhesive. Leave pick in place.
- Right edge: Heat, then insert no deeper than 7 mm. Slide up to mid-point or until you feel a hard stop. Do not go near the volume buttons. Leave pick in place.
- Left edge: Heat, then insert no deeper than 5 mm. Use a second pick from the bottom-left corner, sliding up to the top-left. Leave in place.
- Top edge: Heat, then insert no deeper than 3 mm. Slide second pick from top-left to top-right. You may hear/feel two clips release. Leave in place.
- Top-right corner: Heat, then insert no deeper than 4 mm. Slide pick to the volume up button.
- Gently swing the back glass open to the right. Rest it against a raised surface to avoid straining the cable. If stuck, re-check for unseparated adhesive or clips.
Internal Connectors
- Using a Y000 Tri-point driver, remove the two 1.3 mm screws securing the lower connector cover. Slide the cover toward the top to unlatch and remove.
- With the back glass held upright, locate the battery press connector just below the volume buttons. Use an opening pick to pry it up and disconnect.
- Remove the 0.9 mm screw securing the middle connector cover. Push the cover down and toward the bottom to unclip the top edge; remove.
- Using an opening pick, pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil and NFC connector.
- Remove the back glass.
Adhesive Removal & Surface Prep
- Test before sealing: Reconnect the battery and back glass, power on and verify function, then power off and disconnect before continuing.
- Use a heat gun/hair dryer to soften remaining adhesive. Roll with a pick, grip with tweezers, and pull off.
- Wrap a pick in a lint-free cloth. Apply >90% isopropyl alcohol and wipe adhesive residue in one direction around the frame. Wait for alcohol to fully evaporate.
Adhesive & Reassembly
- Confirm orientation of new adhesive using cutouts for spring contacts and rear camera as references.
- Peel the backing starting from the bottom. Align the bottom edge first, then work around the perimeter—sides and top will align if the bottom is placed correctly. Press adhesive firmly with a spuder.
- Verify all spring contacts and rear camera are seated in their cutouts. Remove all adhesive liners.
- Reconnect the wireless charging coil then the battery press connector. Press each connector down one side at a time until it clicks flat.
- Seat the middle connector cover (slight overhang over the logic board slot), push down and slide up so both metal clips engage.
- Hook the top of the lower connector cover into the logic board slot, lay it flat, then install screws:
- 0.9 mm screw (middle cover) — Y000 Tri-point
- Two 1.7 mm screws (lower cover) — Y000 Tri-point
- Remove all remaining adhesive liners from the frame (bottom tabs, left/top strip, right edge strips).
- Lower the back glass straight down onto the frame. Press until all clips engage. Press around the entire perimeter.
Bonding
- Heat the edges of the back glass until hot to the touch. Firmly press around the perimeter.
- To bond evenly
