Summary

Replace the loudspeaker in an iPhone 15. Indicated when audio output produces static or crackling not caused by a software issue. Requires back glass removal and replacement adhesive.

Procedure

Preparation

  1. Drain battery below 25%. Power off the device and unplug all cables.
  2. If glass is cracked, apply overlapping strips of packing tape over the affected areas. Ensure a smooth area near the bottom edge for suction cup adhesion.
  3. Mark an opening pick 3 mm from the tip to prevent over-insertion damage.

Back Glass Removal

  1. Remove the two 7.7 mm P2 pentalobe screws flanking the charging port.
  2. Heat the bottom edge of the back glass until hot to the touch.
  3. Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge; pull firmly to create a gap and insert an opening pick.
  4. Caution zones: Avoid inserting pick near the volume down button (cable present); do not exceed depth limits at any edge.
  5. Slide pick along the bottom edge — max depth 5 mm. Leave pick inserted at bottom right corner.
  6. Heat the right edge; rotate pick around the bottom right corner up to the volume down button — max depth 7 mm. Leave pick inserted.
  7. Heat the left edge; insert a second pick at the bottom left corner and slide up to the top left corner — max depth 5 mm. Leave pick inserted.
  8. Heat the top edge; rotate second pick across the top edge — max depth 3 mm. Clips will audibly release.
  9. Heat the top right corner; slide second pick down to the volume up button — max depth 4 mm.
  10. Gently swing the back glass open to the right. Rest it against a raised surface — do not strain the cable.

Connector Disconnection

  1. Remove the two 1.3 mm Y000 tri-point screws from the lower connector cover; slide cover toward the top to unlatch and remove.
  2. Rotate the back glass to expose the battery press connector below the volume buttons. Use an opening pick to pry up and disconnect it.
  3. Remove the 0.9 mm Y000 screw from the middle connector cover; push cover toward the bottom to unclip and remove.
  4. Pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil/NFC press connector.
  5. Remove the back glass fully.

Loudspeaker Removal

  1. Remove the 1.3 mm Y000 tri-point screw securing the grounding clip and loudspeaker.
  2. Remove the four 1.6 mm Phillips #000 screws securing the loudspeaker.
  3. Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up the right edge of the loudspeaker; remove it.

Loudspeaker Installation

  1. Place the new loudspeaker into its recess in the frame.
  2. Install the 1.3 mm Y000 grounding clip screw and the four 1.6 mm Phillips #000 screws.

Reassembly

  1. Test before sealing: Temporarily reconnect battery and back glass, power on, verify audio, then power off and disconnect before continuing.
  2. Remove old back glass adhesive using a spudger to roll and lift it. Apply heat if needed. Clean residue with >90% isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth; allow to fully evaporate.
  3. Orient new adhesive using camera and spring contact cutouts as alignment guides.
  4. Peel back liner partially from the bottom; align bottom edge first, press down, then continue peeling and pressing along all edges. Ensure all spring contacts and camera clear their cutouts.
  5. Remove the top adhesive liner.
  6. Reconnect wireless charging coil press connector, then battery press connector.
  7. Seat the middle connector cover — slide upward so both metal clips engage the logic board.
  8. Hook the lower connector cover into its logic board slot and lay it down over the connectors.
  9. Install the 0.9 mm Y000 screw (middle cover) and two 1.3 mm Y000 screws (lower cover).
  10. Remove all remaining adhesive liners from the frame edges.
  11. Lay the back glass straight down onto the frame and press until all clips engage around the perimeter.
  12. Heat back glass edges until hot to the touch; press firmly around the perimeter.
  13. Compress the back glass for at least 30 minutes (overnight preferred) using weighted objects. Account for the camera bump using the original iPhone box recess, or use stacked coins along the edges as spacers if the box is unavailable.
  14. Install the two 7.7 mm P2 pentalobe screws at the charging port.

Notes

Screw tracking is critical — each screw must return to its original location. Use a FixMat or labeled organizer.
