Summary

Step-by-step procedure to replace the battery in an iPhone 15. Requires removal of the back glass to access the battery. Allow approximately 1–2 hours. Requires a replacement battery and back glass adhesive.

Procedure

Preparation

  1. Drain battery below 25%. Power off the device and unplug all cables.
  2. If the back glass or screen is cracked, apply overlapping strips of packing tape over the glass.
  3. Mark an opening pick 3 mm from the tip with a permanent marker to prevent over-insertion.

Remove Back Glass

  1. Use a P2 pentalobe driver to remove the two 7.7 mm screws beside the charging port.
  2. Heat the bottom edge of the back glass with a heat gun or hair dryer until hot to the touch.
  3. Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge, pull to create a gap, and insert an opening pick.
  4. Slide the pick along the bottom edge — do not insert deeper than 5 mm. Leave pick in corner.
  5. Heat the right edge. Slide pick around the bottom right corner up toward the volume down button — max 7 mm depth. Do not pass the volume buttons.
  6. Heat the left edge. Insert a second pick at the bottom left corner and slide it up to the top left corner — max 5 mm depth. Leave inserted.
  7. Heat the top edge. Slide the second pick across the top edge — max 3 mm depth. You may hear clips release.
  8. Heat the top right corner. Slide the pick around the top right corner down to the volume up button — max 4 mm depth.
  9. Gently swing the back glass open to the right. Rest it against a raised surface — do not strain the cable.

Disconnect Battery & Remove Back Glass

  1. Use a tri-point Y000 driver to remove the two 1.3 mm screws from the lower connector cover. Slide cover toward the top of the phone and remove.
  2. With the back glass held upright, use an opening pick to pry up and disconnect the battery press connector from the logic board.
  3. Use a tri-point Y000 driver to remove the 0.9 mm screw from the middle connector cover. Push cover toward the bottom of the phone to unclip and remove.
  4. Use an opening pick to disconnect the wireless charging coil and NFC connector.
  5. Remove the back glass completely.

Remove Battery

  1. Slide an opening pick under the battery cable to separate it from the logic board adhesive. Do not crease the cable.
  2. Use an opening pick to scrape up the edge of each stretch-release adhesive pull tab. Grip with blunt-nose tweezers.
  3. Peel each pull tab away from the battery surface. Use an opening pick to slice the adhesive securing the strip to the top edge of the battery.
  4. Pull each adhesive strip out from under the battery at as low an angle as possible. Re-grip as needed. Wrap strip around a tool for better leverage if necessary.
  5. If a strip breaks: Apply a few drops of >90% isopropyl alcohol to the inside and upper edges of the battery. Wait 1 minute. Insert a plastic card under the left edge and pry upward. Slide card side-to-side to release remaining adhesive.
  6. Remove the battery.

Reassembly

  1. Remove all residual adhesive from the frame using tweezers. Clean residue with a lint-free cloth and >90% isopropyl alcohol. Allow to fully dry.
  2. If the replacement battery includes a plastic sleeve, remove it. Peel the adhesive liner.
  3. Hold the battery over its location, connect the press connector, then lower it into place and press firmly.
  4. Disconnect the battery press connector again before sealing.
  5. Remove old back glass adhesive from the frame. Apply heat if needed to loosen. Clean frame thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry.
  6. Orient new adhesive correctly (align cutouts with spring contacts and rear camera). Peel the back liner gradually and press adhesive into place along the bottom edge first, then sides and top.
  7. Press adhesive firmly around the full perimeter with the flat end of a spudger. Confirm all spring contacts are through their cutouts.
  8. Remove the top adhesive liner(s).
  9. Prop up the back glass and reconnect: wireless charging coil connector, then battery press connector.
  10. Replace the middle connector cover — hook bottom clip into logic board slot, press down, and slide upward to engage both clips. Install 0.9 mm screw.
  11. Hook the lower connector cover into the logic board slot and lay it over the connectors. Install two 1.3 mm screws.
  12. Remove all remaining adhesive liners from the frame (bottom pull tabs, left/top edge liner, right edge liners).
  13. Lay the back glass straight
