Summary
Step-by-step procedure to remove and replace the loudspeaker in an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Requires screen removal before accessing the loudspeaker assembly.
Procedure
- Power off the iPhone completely before beginning.
- Discharge battery to below 25% before disassembly to reduce fire risk.
- Remove two 6.8 mm pentalobe P2 screws from the bottom edge.
- Mark opening picks at 3 mm from the tip to avoid inserting too far and damaging internals.
- Heat the bottom edge with a hair dryer for ~90 seconds until slightly too hot to touch.
- Insert an opening pick under the screen’s plastic bezel at the bottom edge (max 3 mm depth).
- Heat and slice the right edge adhesive — slide the pick from the bottom-right corner up to the top-right corner (max 3 mm depth).
- Heat and slice the top edge adhesive — slide from the top-right corner to just before the earpiece speaker cut-out (max 3 mm depth).
- Heat the left edge — do NOT insert the pick along the left edge; delicate cables run here.
- Insert a second pick at the bottom-left corner and twist both picks simultaneously to release the left edge clips.
- Open the iPhone by swinging the screen up from the right side like a book. Prop the screen safely while working.
- Remove eight Y000 screws securing the battery connector cover (5× 1.3 mm, 2× 1.6 mm, 1× 1.9 mm). Keep screws organized.
- Slide the battery connector cover downward to clear the flex cables and remove it.
- Disconnect the battery connector using the pointed end of a spudger — pry straight up. Bend connector away from the socket.
- Disconnect both display cables using the pointed end of a spudger, prying straight up one at a time.
- Remove the screen and set aside.
- Remove four 1.5 mm Phillips screws securing the loudspeaker (3 smaller-headed, 1 larger-headed).
- Pry up the loudspeaker from the bottom-right corner using the flat end of a spudger.
- Tilt and remove the loudspeaker using tweezers, separating it from the adhesive-backed strip connected to the Taptic Engine.
- Install the replacement loudspeaker battery-side first to align it with the adhesive-backed strip.
- Reassemble in reverse order. Power on and test all functions before sealing the screen. Apply replacement screen adhesive as needed.
Notes
- Do not insert picks deeper than 3 mm at any point — internal components and sensors are at risk.
- Do not insert picks along the left edge of the screen — flex cables run along this side.
- Avoid damaging the black silicone seals around board connectors — these maintain water/dust resistance.
- When reconnecting press connectors, align carefully and press one side at a time; pressing the center can bend pins.
- Replacement screen adhesive is required for reassembly. Clean surfaces with >90% isopropyl alcohol before applying.
- Device will likely lose its IP rating after reassembly even with new adhesive.
- Guide was created using model A2894 (international); minor visual differences may exist on other 14 Pro Max models.
