Summary

Replace a non-functional, rattly, or intermittent Taptic Engine in an iPhone 15 Pro. This procedure requires disassembling the device to access internal components. You will need replacement screen adhesive to complete the repair.

Procedure

  1. Prepare for disassembly
    – Drain battery below 25%
    – Unplug all cables
    – Power off the device using power + volume button

  2. Protect cracked glass (if applicable)
    – Apply overlapping packing tape over any cracks
    – Ensure smooth area at bottom edge for suction cup

  3. Mark opening picks
    – Measure 3 mm from tip and mark with permanent marker
    – Alternative: tape a coin 3 mm from tip to prevent over-insertion damage

  4. Remove pentalobe screws
    – Use P2 pentalobe screwdriver
    – Remove two 7 mm screws on either side of charging port

  5. Heat and open screen
    – Heat bottom edge with hair dryer or heat gun until hot to touch
    – Apply suction handle to bottom edge and pull up steadily
    – Insert opening pick into gap

  6. Separate screen adhesive (bottom edge)
    – Do not insert pick deeper than 3 mm
    – Slide pick back and forth to separate adhesive
    – Leave pick in bottom right corner to prevent re-sealing

  7. Heat and open right edge
    – Heat right edge until hot to touch
    – Insert pick no deeper than 5 mm
    – Slide around bottom right corner toward power button until you feel hard stop at clip
    – Rotate pick flat and twist to release clip
    – Insert second pick and separate adhesive along right edge

  8. Heat and open top edge
    – Heat top edge until hot to touch
    – Insert pick no deeper than 3 mm
    – Slide around top right corner along top edge to release clips and adhesive

  9. Heat and open left edge
    – Heat left edge until hot to touch
    – Insert pick no deeper than 2 mm (avoid two cables near left edge)
    – Rotate around top left corner and slide to bottom left to separate adhesive

  10. Remove screen

    • Prop up screen using small box or books to left of phone
    • Swing up right edge like book cover
    • If stuck, go around perimeter again with opening pick to separate remaining adhesive
  11. Remove logic board cover

    • Use Y000 screwdriver to remove six screws:
    • Four 1.6 mm screws
    • Two 1.3 mm screws
    • Rotate bottom counterclockwise and slide top left corner out from under ambient light sensor cable
  12. Disconnect cables

    • Disconnect battery press connector (bottom right of logic board)
    • Disconnect screen cable (center of logic board)
    • Disconnect ambient light sensor cable (top left of logic board)
  13. Remove loudspeaker

    • Use Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove four screws:
    • One 2.7 mm screw
    • Three 2 mm screws
    • Remove loudspeaker assembly
  14. Access and replace Taptic Engine

    • (Procedure continues in full iFixit guide—locate Taptic Engine and follow removal/installation steps)
  15. Reassemble

    • Reverse steps in order
    • Apply new screen adhesive before reinstalling screen
    • Ensure all cables reconnect properly

Notes

  • Battery safety: Do not repair with battery above 25% charge—risk of fire if damaged
  • Cable locations: Two delicate screen cables located just above action button and near middle of left edge—avoid with opening pick
  • Spring contacts: Multiple spring contacts around phone perimeter—do not insert pick too deeply in these areas
  • Re-sealing adhesive: Leave picks inserted during steps to prevent adhesive from re-bonding prematurely
  • Press connectors: Align carefully and press one side until click, then press other side; ensure flat seating
  • Screen reinstallation: Follow dedicated screen adhesive installation guide for proper reassembly
