Summary

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for replacing a broken or cracked screen on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. The repair requires disconnecting internal cables, removing adhesive, and installing new screen adhesive. Estimated time varies based on technician experience.

Important: Due to Apple’s parts pairing restrictions, True Tone and auto brightness are disabled after screen replacement on iOS 17.6 and earlier. On iOS 18+, use Apple’s Repair Assistant to calibrate genuine parts and restore functionality.

Procedure

Preparation

  1. Drain battery below 25%
  2. Power off the device completely
  3. Tape over any cracks with overlapping packing tape for safety
  4. Mark opening picks at 3 mm intervals with permanent marker to prevent over-insertion

Screen Removal

  1. Remove two 7.2 mm pentalobe screws (P2 driver) on either side of charging port
  2. Heat bottom edge until hot to touch using hair dryer or heat gun
  3. Apply suction handle to bottom edge and pull to create gap
  4. Insert opening pick; slide along bottom edge (max 3 mm depth) to separate adhesive
  5. Leave pick inserted at bottom right corner to prevent re-sealing
  6. Heat right edge; insert pick (max 5 mm depth), rotate flat, and twist to release clip
  7. Insert second pick; separate remaining right edge adhesive
  8. Heat top edge; separate adhesive and release two clips (max 3 mm depth)
  9. Heat left edge; separate adhesive with extreme care (max 2 mm depth—delicate cables present)
  10. Gently swing screen open to the left; support with box to avoid cable strain

Internal Disconnections

  1. Remove six tri-point Y000 screws from logic board cover (one 2.1 mm, five 1.5 mm)
  2. Slide logic board cover toward bottom to clear sensor cable; remove
  3. Disconnect battery press connector using opening pick
  4. Disconnect ambient light sensor press connector (top left)
  5. Disconnect screen press connector
  6. Remove screen

Before Reassembly

  1. Check if replacement screen includes ambient light sensor
  2. If not, transfer sensor from original screen
  3. Clean frame carefully; avoid damaging spring contacts
  4. Install new screen adhesive before reconnecting

Notes

  • Battery must be below 25% to prevent lithium-ion fire hazard
  • Delicate cables are located above action button and near middle of left edge
  • Multiple spring contacts exist around perimeter—do not over-insert picks
  • Keep track of all screws; document which screw came from which location
  • Heat only until “hot to touch”—excessive heat damages battery
  • Press connectors click into place; ensure they sit flush
  • On iOS 18+, use Apple Repair Assistant to restore True Tone and auto brightness after screen replacement with genuine parts
