Summary

Replace rear cameras on iPhone 15 Pro Max if images are fuzzy, videos are noisy, or autofocus fails. This procedure requires screen removal to access camera connectors. Battery calibration may be required on iOS 18+.

Procedure

  1. Prepare for disassembly
    – Drain battery below 25%
    – Power off phone completely
    – Unplug any cables

  2. Protect cracked glass
    – Apply overlapping packing tape over cracks if present
    – Ensure smooth area at bottom edge for suction cup

  3. Mark opening picks
    – Mark 3 mm from pick tip with permanent marker to prevent deep insertion damage

  4. Remove pentalobe screws
    – Use P2 pentalobe driver to remove two 7.2 mm screws on either side of charging port

  5. Remove screen
    – Heat bottom edge until hot to touch
    – Apply suction handle and pull to create gap
    – Insert opening pick (max 3 mm depth on bottom)
    – Progressively heat and separate adhesive around all edges (5 mm right edge, 3 mm top, 2 mm left edge)
    – Swing screen open to left; rest against support object

  6. Unfasten logic board cover
    – Use Y000 tri-point driver
    – Remove six screws: one 2.1 mm and five 1.5 mm
    – Slide cover toward bottom to clear sensor cable

  7. Disconnect power and sensors
    – Pry up battery press connector
    – Disconnect ambient light sensor press connector (top left)
    – Disconnect screen press connector

  8. Access rear cameras
    – Disconnect three rear camera press connectors at top right of logic board
    – Note: Third connector is hidden beneath top one

  9. Replace cameras
    – Remove old camera modules
    – Install replacement rear cameras
    – Reconnect all three camera press connectors

  10. Reassemble

    • Reconnect screen and sensor connectors
    • Reconnect battery
    • Reinstall logic board cover with marked screws in correct positions
    • Install new screen adhesive before closing
    • Reinstall screen

Notes

  • Track all screws—they vary by length and location
  • Press connectors click when fully seated; ensure flat alignment
  • Avoid inserting picks deeper than marked depths to prevent damage to cables and spring contacts
  • Two delicate screen cables are located above action button and mid-left edge
  • iOS 17.6 and earlier may show camera warnings; iOS 18+ requires calibration via Apple Repair Assistant
  • Replacement screen adhesive is required
