Summary

Replace the front camera assembly (which includes Face ID hardware) on iPhone 15 Pro Max if the front camera image is fuzzy or non-functional. Note: Face ID will no longer work after replacement unless recalibrated with Apple’s Repair Assistant (iOS 18+) or by Apple/authorized technician (iOS 17.6 and earlier). This procedure covers screen removal to access the front camera assembly.

Procedure

  1. Prepare for disassembly
    – Drain battery below 25%
    – Unplug all cables
    – Power off phone using power and volume buttons

  2. Protect cracked glass (if applicable)
    – Apply overlapping packing tape over cracks
    – Ensure smooth area at bottom edge for suction cup

  3. Mark opening picks
    – Mark 3 mm from pick tip with permanent marker to prevent over-insertion
    – Mark additional corners with different measurements if desired

  4. Remove pentalobe screws
    – Use P2 pentalobe driver to remove two 7.2 mm screws on either side of charging port

  5. Remove screen
    – Heat bottom edge until hot to touch
    – Apply suction handle to bottom edge and pull to create gap
    – Insert opening pick into gap
    – Separate adhesive along bottom edge (max 3 mm insertion depth)
    – Heat right edge and separate adhesive (max 5 mm insertion depth)
    – Release right clip by twisting pick
    – Heat top edge and separate adhesive (max 3 mm insertion depth)
    – Heat left edge and separate adhesive (max 2 mm insertion depth to avoid cables)
    – Gently swing screen open to the left
    – Support screen with box to avoid cable strain

  6. Remove logic board cover
    – Use Y000 tri-point driver to remove six screws from logic board cover
    – Slide cover toward bottom of phone to clear sensor cable

  7. Disconnect internal components
    – Disconnect battery press connector using opening pick
    – Disconnect ambient light sensor press connector
    – Disconnect screen press connector

  8. Remove screen completely
    – After disconnecting all cables, screen can be fully removed

Notes

  • Front camera assembly includes Face ID hardware as single paired unit
  • Replacement screen adhesive required for reassembly
  • Keep detailed track of all screw locations and sizes during disassembly
  • Be cautious around two delicate screen cables (above action button and near left edge)
  • Multiple spring contacts around phone perimeter—avoid over-inserting picks
  • Do not exceed depth limits when inserting picks to avoid component damage
  • Face ID recalibration possible on iOS 18+ with Apple’s Repair Assistant
  • Consult separate guide for screen adhesive installation during reassembly
