Summary

Replace a degraded iPhone 15 Pro Max battery. Batteries are rated for 1000 charge cycles at 80% capacity. If your phone requires frequent charging or performs slower, battery replacement may be needed. This procedure requires opening the device, disconnecting internal components, and removing the battery module.

Procedure

Preparation

  1. Drain battery below 25% (lithium-ion safety hazard when charged)
  2. Unplug all cables
  3. Power off: hold power + volume button, slide to power off
  4. If screen/back glass is cracked, apply overlapping packing tape for safety

Screen Removal

  1. Mark opening picks at 3mm from tip with permanent marker to prevent deep insertion damage
  2. Remove two 7.2mm P2 pentalobe screws on either side of charging port
  3. Heat bottom edge with hair dryer or heat gun until hot to touch
  4. Apply suction handle to bottom edge; pull with steady force to create gap
  5. Insert opening pick into gap
  6. Slide pick along bottom edge (max 3mm depth) to separate adhesive; leave pick in bottom right corner
  7. Heat right edge until hot to touch
  8. Slide pick around bottom right corner toward power button (max 5mm depth) until you feel hard stop at clip
  9. Rotate pick flat-side under screen; twist to release right clip
  10. Insert second pick to right of first; separate right edge adhesive with both picks (leave inserted)
  11. Heat top edge until hot to touch
  12. Slide pick around top right corner and along top edge (max 3mm depth) to release clips and adhesive
  13. Heat left edge until hot to touch
  14. Slide pick around top left corner to bottom left corner (max 2mm depth) to avoid two delicate cables
  15. Gently swing screen open to the left; rest against box to avoid cable strain

Internal Disconnection

  1. Remove six tri-point Y000 screws from logic board cover: one 2.1mm screw and five 1.5mm screws (track each screw location)
  2. Use tweezers to slide logic board cover toward bottom of phone; remove cover
  3. Disconnect battery press connector with opening pick
  4. Disconnect ambient light sensor press connector from top left of logic board
  5. Disconnect screen press connector
  6. Remove screen

Notes

  • Cable locations: Two delicate screen cables are located just above action button and near middle of left edge—avoid deep pick insertion in these areas
  • Spring contacts: Multiple spring contacts around perimeter—extra care needed to avoid bending
  • Heat precaution: Do not overheat—battery is susceptible to heat damage
  • iOS pairing: iOS 17.6 and earlier may show replacement part warnings and disable battery health data. iOS 18+ can calibrate authentic Apple batteries using Repair Assistant
  • Screw tracking: Keep precise track of each screw location during disassembly for proper reassembly
  • Screen adhesive: Install new screen adhesive during reassembly using separate guide
  • Spring contacts: Be careful not to damage during frame cleaning
