Windows 10 Installation: Reinstall (Keep Data)
MAKE SURE CX HAS SIGNED T&Cs PRIOR TO STARTING. CX WILL NEED TO INSTALL ALL 3RD PARTY PROGRAMS BACK ONTO THEIR MACHINE. THIS WILL ONLY TRANSFER FILES/DATA.
Insert Sandisk USB thumb drive (small, black/silver)
Turn on the machine & use the appropriate key to load into the boot manager. Once in the boot manager, select the option for UEFI Sandisk.
The Windows Installation Wizard will load.
Select Next.
Choose the version of Windows 10 you want to install (Home, Pro, etc).
Select the option for, “I don’t have a Windows key.” ****
Choose Custom Install
Do not delete or create new partitions, just push next.
****
Machine will start installing Windows 10
Once the installation is complete, the machine will reboot. Remove USB drive when machine is in reboot process.
BIOS will automatically recognize the Windows 10 license key.
All data from the previous Windows install will be moved to a folder called Windows.old. Once you get into the desktop, navigate to the Windows.old folder. Open the User Profile inside (it will more than likely ask for admin privileges) & view all hidden items, then CTRL+A to select all, right click & select cut. Then navigate back to This PC > Local Disk > Users > Open the correct user profile & CTRL+V to paste.
This will move all data content from the old user profile/version of Windows to the new profile/version of Windows. Please note this will not transfer any programs, only the data like documents, pictures, videos, music, downloads, etc. Cx will be responsible for reinstalling all of their 3rd party programs back to the machine.
