1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
3. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears, then release.
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus:
1. Press and hold both the Volume Down button and the Sleep/Wake (Side) button simultaneously.
2. Hold until the Apple logo appears, then release.
iPhone 6s, iPhone SE (1st gen), and earlier:
1. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake (Top/Side) button simultaneously.
2. Hold until the Apple logo appears, then release.
Notes
- A force restart does not erase any data on the device.
- Use this procedure when the device is frozen, the screen is unresponsive, or a standard restart is not possible.
- If the Apple logo does not appear after a force restart, connect the device to power and attempt again.
- If the device remains unresponsive after multiple attempts, proceed to DFU mode recovery or escalate to depot repair.
